CCG lends timber to Athletes Village at Commonwealth Games

The Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow in 2014. Four Scottish companies have combined forces to deliver the £245 million Athletes Village. One of the objectives of the Athletes Village is to construct the units to the predicted 2013 Scottish Buildings Regulations which aim to reduce carbon emissions by 60%.<br> <br> One of these Scottish Companies, CCG (Scotland) based in Glasgow, will, in conjunction with their specialist "Off Site Manufacturing" Division, CCG (OSM), provide 237 of the houses required. The houses will all comprise timber frame closed panels, SpaceJoists floor cassettes and roof cassettes – which go a long way to ensuring that the high performance specification requirements are achieved, explains ITW Industry, supplier of products and services to the timber industry.<br> <br> SpaceStud has been selected for the timber frame walls on account of its low thermal conductivity, achieving a U-value of 0.15. The SpaceStud is made up of 63mm timber separated by 55mm steel SpaceStud clips with polystyrene insulation inserted between the timber and clips. Mineral wool fills up the timber frame panel between the SpaceStuds.<br> <br> www.itw-industry.com
