Independent tests on Norbord’s Caberdek Eooring have conDrmed that the company’s new CaberDx Joint & Joist adhesive can help signiDcantly reduce the passage of airborne noise in timber Eoor constructions.

The most recent tests, carried out by independent acoustic consultancy Sound Research Laboratories Ltd (SRL), were conducted in partnership with engineered timber manufacturer, James Jones, using its 220mm JJI-Joists.

The Eoor tested was James Jones’ standard solution for intermediate Eoors within dwellings, designed in accordance with the October 2010 acoustic performance targets of Part E of the Building Regulations.

Comprising 22mm Caberdek boards on 220mm deep timber joists placed at 600mm centres, the Eoor incorporates 100mm Knauf SK Acoustic Roll insulation with a 15mm Knauf plasterboard ceiling screwed to the underside of the joist.

In tests, the sample Eoor achieved a noise reduction performance of 44dB Rw which equates to a 12% reduction in sound pressure level. Moreover, while traditional Eoor structures would need a minimum 240 mm deep joist to achieve the current requirement, the CaberDx/James Jones/Knauf Eoor exceeded the requirements without any increase in Eoor thickness.
