CABE urges housebuilders to take on design agenda

Housebuilders must embrace the government&amp;’s design agenda or public sector developers will take their place in building on new tranches of land. Jon Rouse, chief executive of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, has told Housebuilder that the demarcation lines between private sector and public sector developers are &amp;“dissolving&amp;”.<p></p><p>&amp;“The Deputy Prime Minister has set out an agenda for growth and new land is being released over which there will be some government control,&amp;” he said. &amp;“Those housebuilders who are responding best to the design agenda are going to get the opportunity to build there.</p><p>&amp;“With a more stable land supply market, housebuilders will compete on quality, flexibility and lifestyle. </p><p>&amp;“But if they don&amp;’t, then firms such as The Peabody Trust and Places for People are ready to step in. There is a breakdown in the division between providers of affordable housing and market housing. Those segregated markets are slowly dissolving.&amp;” Click here to read full article</p><p>Plans have been unveiled by developer Urban Splash for a vibrant mixed-use Millennium Community, New Islington, on the site of the former Cardroom Estate in Manchester. 1400 new homes are planned along with new offices, shops and restaurants.</p><p>&amp; </p><p></p>
