Building Regs changes to cost housebuilders £103 million a year

Proposed changes to the Building Regulations will cost the housebuilding industry £103 million each year - but the government will seek to save that amount through deregulation to compensate and to keep its promise to reduce red tape. Speaking at today's Housebuilder Building Regulations seminar, Anthony Burd of DCLG said:"We will find regulation 'outs' to save that amount of money and if we don't the proposals will change, we promise that." Changes to the Building Regulations are out for consultation until April 27 with the new rules set to be introduced in October 2013, having been published six months earlier. The Building Regulation and Building Control seminar has been organised by Housebuilder magazine for NHBC and HBF to provide a forum for DCLG and the industry to discuss the forthcoming proposals.
