Brokenshire leaves housing secretary post

<p>Housing secretary James Brokenshire has left his post, as new prime minister Boris Johnson reshuffles his cabinet.</p><p>Brokenshire was appointed housing secretary in April 2018. Previously he was secretary of state for Northern Ireland from July 2016 until January 2018. Before this, he <span>was a minister at the Home Office, consecutively taking on the crime prevention, security and immigration briefs.</span></p><p><span></span><span>Announcing his departure in a tweet, Brokenshire said: “</span><span>After 13 years service on the front bench including 9 in government will be heading to the backbenches. Has been a huge privilege to serve, but looking forward to being released from collective responsibility and campaigning on issues that matter to me and my constituents.</span>”</p><p>In the reshuffle, Brokenshire’s predecessor Sajid Javid has been appointed chancellor.</p><p> <br/></p>
