Bewley sees busy land period

<p>Bewley Homes has experienced one of its most successful periods for land buying in its 30-year history, it has said, coinciding with lockdown.</p><p>The Basingstoke-based housebuilder said that during the past four months it had seen ten deals complete, exchange or pass into “solicitors’ hands”, totalling 2,000 units and with a combined GDV (gross development value) of around £600 million.</p><p>Bewley, which builds in the Home Counties, has secured the land in areas including Guildford, Basingstoke, Swindon, Beaconsfield and Faringdon. </p><p>In Faringdon, the acquisition of 190 units - secured under contract during the lockdown - meant the business was extending its geographic reach into west Oxfordshire, it said. The site, the company explained, was bought after a landowner contacted Bewley having been let down by the previous developer.</p><p>Andrew Brooks, Bewley’s md, commented: “The site originally came to us with a small window of opportunity, but with the professionalism of our team and expert external legal and technical advice, we were able to complete the due diligence within 12 hours, exchanging contracts late in the evening following a whole day’s meeting.</p><p>“We’ve always punched above our weight.
