Bellway hikes its affordability bar

Bellway Homes is pushing the proportion of affordable homes on its sites beyond the 50% required by government, with the approval of its redevelopment plans for the former gas works in Stepney, which will incorporate 56% affordable and key worker homes. <p></p><p>The mixed-use scheme of 532 houses and apartments, of which 300 will be affordable, will also provide a local community hall and training facilities for Ocean New Deal for Communities. The 8.3acre site adjacent to the Regents Canal was purchased by Bellway in 1998, and extensive remediation works are expected to be completed by spring, with the residential development likely to commence in 2006. </p>
