<b><b>HBF technical director Dave Baker looks at the changes to Part E and finds that what may be lacking is properly thought out &"robust standard details&" for walls and floors</b></b><br><b>The HBF has consulted widely on the proposed Part E changes and has forwarded to DETR a list of observations and suggestions for amendments that we feel should be made to the draft Approved Document.</b><br><b><b>Peaceful seclusion </b></b><br> Clearly, HBF members are supportive of the aim to ensure that adequate levels of sound insulation are provided between attached dwellings. <p></p><p>Most housebuilders expect to be building houses and flats designed to meet the call for high-density urban living accommodation heralded by current planning guidance, creating an environment where neighbours will be living closer together than ever before. </p><p>At the same time we are seeking to meet the lifestyle expectations of our customers, many of whom would have previously sought to purchase (and would perhaps even now prefer to live in) detached properties, in line with recent social trends. </p><p>It is clear that their aspirations include an understandable desire to live in peaceful seclusion from their near neighbours.</p><p> Accordingly, and setting aside one or two matters of detail, HBF members are generally content with …
