<b><b>Jeremy Gates talks to Ronnie Hanna, chief executive of Bett Brothers of Dundee, who says he is heading south</b></b><br><b>Twenty years ago, Ronnie Hanna went on a buying spree - transforming Cala Homes from tiny Scottish property group to nationwide developer with such mouth-watering prospects that the management eventually could not resist the temptation to take it private.</b><br><b>In 1992, Hanna moved from Cala to Dundee-based Bett Brothers - then a minnow with &£7.5m market capitalisation and serious doubts about long-term survival after the collapse of a major commercial project in Surrey.</b><br><b><b>Southbound</b></b><br> Nine years on, Bett is worth &£40 million-plus - and plenty of housebuilders around Britain who have bought its shares eagerly await Hanna&’s next move. At the tender age of 59, he is ready to hit the road south on another expansion trail.<p></p><p>&“You have to respond to opportunities as they present themselves in our business,&” he says. &“The next obvious target areas for us are Yorkshire and Birmingham - though we&’ll need to send missionaries down from Scottish head office when we do it.
