<b><b>Judith Harrison, project director of the Housing Forum, says its new report on sustainability is not an attack on any sector of the industry but important guidance for all</b></b><br><b>The publication by the Housing Forum of its report on sustainability, <i>The &amp;‘e&amp;’ - factor: Six guiding principles to improving sustainability in housebuilding,</i> in July has created some waves. The report, available from the Housing Forum website, www.thehousingforum.org.uk, has however been so successful that it is being reprinted just one month after publication.</b><br><b><b>No rights and wrongs</b></b><br> Far from attacking any sector of the industry, the report acknowledges that &amp;“in sustainability one size does not fit all&amp;”. The report also states that in reality there are few rights and wrongs in sustainability and that organisations may occasionally make decisions that are far from being fully sustainable, for valid reasons.<p></p><p>The six guiding principles to improving sustainability in housebuilding promoted in the report are:</p><p> &amp;• reduce carbon dioxide emissions</p><p> &amp;• minimise pollution</p><p> &amp;• consider whole life costs</p><p> &amp;• use resources to their maximum utility</p><p> &amp;• provide for integrated communities</p><p> &amp;• consult and engage existing communities.</p><p>Each of the guiding principles could be addressed individually or as a whole package.
