Anxious firms await spring season results

Housebuilders face an anxious wait to see how the spring sales season will pan out and smaller companies are busy revising their business strategies as the slowdown bites across the country. Carl Turpin of Surrey-based Oakdene Homes expects to see “a flat market for the next two to three years.” He said: “We’re still seeing a lot of activity and site visits and prices are holding up but the rate of reservations is about half what it was. The main issue is a lack of confidence, buyers are holding off. <br><br>“Now it will be about making sure our product is at the top of the pile in terms of design, location and internal fit-out. It’s about building what people want, and as a small developer we can tailor that and be picky about the sites we build out. So the key for us for the next couple of years will be focusing on the top end of the market.” He added: “The back end of March and April will be the litmus test for the rest of the year.
