Elements of the whole range of glazing systems by the leading architectural systems supplier Kawneer have been used on three tower blocks at the heart of the refurbishment of a London borough. Kawneer's AA®100 multi-drained curtain walling and AA®541 casement windows feature as vertical ribbons of glazing down the sides of the 24 storey blocks. The glazing systems were installed by approved specialist sub-contractor APiC UK for main contractor Breyer Group. The opening vents were designed as bottom-hung on electric actuators to complement a natural ventilation strategy.
They are complimented by Kawneer's 451PT framing system, AA®601 top-hung casement windows and series 190 heavy-duty entrance doors (tested to the requirements of Secured by Design) on the ground floor offices of Poynter, Norland and Stebbing houses on the Edward Woods estate in Hammersmith and Fulham. All of the Kawneer systems were polyester powder coated in a bespoke colour which was guaranteed for 40 years, while the outer panels of glass were toughened and the inner panels laminated to optimise solar gain.
