EDENHALL BRICK USED FOR DEVELOPMENT OF THE YEAR

Edenhall facing brick has been extensively used by Bellway Homes and Mace for an award-winning housing development beside the River Thames at Barking. Designed by Sheppard Robson, Barking Riverside has been awarded Development of the Year in the Sunday Times 2013 British Homes Awards design competition. It is one of the largest residential schemes in the UK, with 10,800 homes set to be delivered over 12 years on a 170ha brownfield site.

The criteria for judging stipulated 'A residential development of any size that demonstrates a positive aesthetic architectural contribution within its immediate environment'. Edenhall contributed to the striking aesthetics of the elevations with their high quality facing bricks: Midnight Blue finishes were supplied to the Bellway sites and Leah Valley smooth-faced buffs to Mace. Sheppard Robson project architect Tom Kyle said: "We originally had a different materials pallet and the decision to switch to brickwork and timber cladding was mainly cost-driven. Brickwork has BRE's A+ environmental rating and Edenhall's bricks cost less than their clay equivalents".
