To combat a rise in consumer complaints of leaking roofs following solar panel installations, a new Microregeneration Scheme (MCS) Document has been published. MCS012 covers requirements for pitched roof installation kits, paying particular attention to weathertightness, wind uplift resistance and reaction to fire.
It is expected that MCS012 approved installation kits will be required for all MCS installations from 16th September 2013 in order to qualify for the Feed-In Tariffs. The next issues of the Solar PV and Solar thermal MCS Installation Standards (MIS3002 and MIS3001) will be updated to include references to MCS012 to reflect this.
The BBA is already carrying out wind uplift resistance and weathertightness tests on systems using its purpose built test rig and looks forward to issuing its first MCS012 Certificate.
Manufacturers are advised to make contact now to avoid delays in gaining approval before the deadline.
