How to decipher the code
The Code for Sustainable Homes signals a new direction for building standards, a system of sustainable building standards based on voluntary compliance.nbsp;
In the introduction to the consultation document for the Code for Sustainable Homes, Government states that it is introducing the Code to increase the sustainability of homes through non-regulatory means in response to a perceived demand from homeowners and the development industry. All dwellings funded by or on land provided by Government or its agencies such as Housing Corporation and English Partnerships, will be required to meet the Code. In addition Government is encouraging local authorities to adopt the Code by providing incentives in the planning system to encourage the use of a new, strengthened, Code for Sustainable Homes.
The CSH is likely to be implemented just days before this conference and under the chairmanship of John Tebbit (Industry Affairs Director at the Construction Products Association), this session will examine the history behind the code as well as giving delegates practical advice how to move forward under the new guidelines
