HBF Planning Conference 2015

Austin Court, Birmingham - 16 September 2015

The Conservative election victory promises a degree of stability for the house building industry at least in terms of national planning policy but there is uncertainty ahead with the Government’s commitment to devolving planning responsibilities to city-regions and neighbourhoods.

There are also outstanding issues in relation to neighbourhood planning and the community infrastructure levy that will require resolution before devolution can become effective. The consequences of long-term failure to provide sufficient housing is also resulting in greater public awareness of viability and its relationship to affordable housing delivery and the challenge for local authorities to demonstrate a five year land supply is placing the plan-led system under stress. The conference will explore what these issues mean for the reputation of development industry, its relationship with local authorities and the general public.

To explore these issues the HBF’s Annual Planning Conference will bring together speakers from central and local government and from within the profession. We will explore whether the Government’s commitment to devolution will provide an effective model to address the political as well as the housing deficit.
