With a background in the supply side of the industry and then a spell as Sales Director of a regional family owned House Builder, Steve Midgley formed Fairgrove Homes in 1995, operating in the East Midlands, usually building small sites of 5 to 30 units and upto 50 new homes per year.
Steve had been Chairman of HBF Midlands region from 2008 to 2010 and since 2006 has been Chairman of the HBF Small Developers Group.
Around 2005 Fairgrove identified the Self Build market as an additional opportunity, initially for serviced plots. It was soon recognised that most self builders didn't want to get their hands dirty and survival mode from 2008 onwards resulted in building a number of one off homes for individuals who had mainly already got their plot.
When Grant Shaps announced the Custom Build Fund in 20012, Fairgrove saw the opportunity and were one of the first in the country to apply for and access the fund. Since then the Fairgrove Custom Build model has been developing and is currently being offered on a number of sites in East Midlands and S Yorkshire.
Steve is passionate about the role of SME builders in increasing the supply of new homes, whether by Custom Build or mainstream methods
