HBF Planning Conference 2014
HBF PLANNING CONFERENCE 2014 Thursday 18 September 2014 - Austin Court, BirminghamSpeakers at the Annual HBF Planning Conference, sponsored once again by Barton Willmore, addressed issues as diverse as who might win the 2015 election, the future of the green belt, planning law through the eyes of a leading QC and the Planning Inspectorate and the role of new towns and garden cities in future housing provision. A session on neighbourhood planning and community engagement followed by a round-up of government initiatives from DCLG’s Chief Planner completed what was a stimulating and enjoyable day at Austin Court in Birmingham.
The results from the interactive voting sessions (it was Scottish Referendum day after all) were of great interest. The fact that over half the audience wanted Manchester United to be relegated this season was, maybe, not surprising but an overwhelming majority of attendees voted for introducing a standard methodology for the calculation of both housing needs and housing land supply; and backed the NPPF requirement for LPAs to maintain a 5 year housing land supply as the most helpful part of the Framework.
