Housing Market Intelligence 2014
Housing Market Intelligence Conference 2014Communities secretary Eric Pickles and Barratt chief executive Mark Clare headlined the programme at this year’s Housing Market Intelligence conference and annual report launch.
More than 300 delegates heard Pickles challenge the industry“to do things differently”, highlighting offsite manufacture, custom build and build to rent.
Clare also had a challenge for the industry – to promote the industry’s qualities and make a clearer, more compelling case for new build homes. Clare stressed that new homes were “better” and this point should be pushed. “If we want to maximise our share on what gets built, we must take the lead on ‘better’. We’ll get support from local politicians and councils if we do this,” he explained.
The conference also featured a housing delivery expert panel and presentations from HBF chairman Stewart Baseley, Professor Paul Cheshire of the LSE and deputy director general of the CBI Katja Hall, among others.
